My Mom's favorite caliber for groundhogs out to 300-400 yards is anything in a 22-250 Rem Mag. My all-time favorite lever gun is the Savage 11G in 22-250 Rem Mag.
For deer hunting I like higher power scopes as in 4x12 - 4.5x14 on the Savage 11G. There is a new edition of my new Savage 11G with the composite chambered in 300 Magnum and 22-250 Rem Mag.
The best all around caliber I own is probably the 22-250 Rem Mag from Bass Pro Shops in Browning. His favorite rifle is the 22-250 Rem Mag I picked up online at the NRA store.
